Design solution for Yamaha to develop a product and service towards younger generation music instrument learner, helping them learning music with less thresholds.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Learning music instrument is hard and unwelcoming.
Since music instrument requires lots of rules to learn. Learner would give up on learning them once they are tired of not playing anything soon and tired of learning complicated theory.

Age 6 to 9 is the best age start to learn music instrument.
Yaha targets on age 5 will be a good period to start to introduce music theory to our target user.
When one plays with imagination to transcend what is known in the current state, to create something new.
They learn by starting out with a parent telling a story or reading aloud to a child, and leading to a child retelling the story in their own words.
Hard to make connection
Kids have difficult times to connect their common sense with the professional terms used in music. This makes their learning process extremely hard when they first encounter music theory.
INSIGHTS
The product should make friendly connection both functionally and visually with user.
The product should lead kids to understand fundamental music components through effective input to the play.
Expanding story telling into kid’s musical play for them to learn concept in time, rhythm, melody and form.
The product should guide kids having organized thinking process and composing process.
How to improve music learning process according to the insight?

Once upon a time, there are bunch of music elf living on the music island. Their name is called Yaha. They about to take you through a fantastic journey of music.

1. Color stand for a note

Yaha uses color as the language to help kids make connection with the music notes.
If user want to create more complicated note, They can stack few notes on top of each others. The light sensor inside each holes will sense what notes user created.

Yaha box contains storage space for user to storage their music notes. The storage space has divided space for user to organize their notes.
The notes can be play for longer duration if user pick a longer piece.
After user manage how to use the toy they can started to compose a harder song by combining different color and different duration of notes.

Feature includes: volume, different filter, also pace and speed, record, play, forward-notes, backward-notes, stop.

The speaker is on the front edge of the device. So user could receive good quality of voice when their creation is played.

After setting up everything, you can start to play with the device or with your own creation on top.
